Voted Scotland’s Most Beautiful Mainland Town
Milngavie is ranked Scotland’s most beautiful mainland town centre and is one of Glasgow’s most sought-after semi-urban/semi-rural areas with easy access to both city centre and contrasting rural escapes. The village is situated on the edge of the beautiful Mugdock Country Park. With proximity to stunning scenery everywhere to be seen, Milngavie remains one of the most beautiful and rewarding places to live in Scotland.
About the Area
Pleasant Hill is set in a quiet upmarket conservation area and benefits from its high-walled perimeters, affording tremendous privacy, yet enjoying easy access to the start of the West Highland Way (<150m away), Mugdock Country Park, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. The Forth-Clyde Canal, with its flat cycle tracks, is also within easy reach. The villa is tucked away but less than a hundred metres from the charming, pedestrian-only, luxury garden village centre of Milngavie – 20 minutes from Glasgow’s city centre.
Abundance of Independent Shops
As well as its rich history, Milngavie is served by a wide range of independent shops (artisans, crafts & deli stores), banks and major retailers such as M&S, Tesco and Waitrose. It is only 2-minutes’ walk to an abundance of local facilities all within the traffic-free village centre.
In addition, the neighbourhood has easy access to leisure amenities that include sports centres, swimming pools, golf courses, cinema complexes, as well as Glasgow’s renowned concert and theatre venues. The village also benefits from fantastic transport links for the M8 to Edinburgh, A9 to Stirling/Perth or M74 to the South and England. With its frequent and efficient local and main line railway networks, Glasgow is not only easily accessible by car or train but well serviced by two local airports.
Business clients can make use of free broadband and high quality of living space. Friends find it ideal for entertaining or for celebration events. Families gathering with youngsters will be easily entertained by the proximity of EITHER (in one direction) the many walks, lochs and beautiful scenery OR (in the other direction) popular sights such as Kelvingrove Galleries, Botanic Gardens or Transport Museum and oodles of theatre / concert venues providing access to the many outstanding cultural, sporting, music and culinary delights which all help make Glasgow into this city of culture and architecture.
About Your Hosts
In their professional lives, Chris and Frances have worked extensively overseas – from Bogota to Budapest and from Jakarta to Japan – and met whilst both were working in Asia. Chris worked in the world of stockbroking, Frances for Her Majesty’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Both were part of the British Embassy welcome party in Indonesia for HRH Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Despite their diverse backgrounds – which include organising Highland Games in Jakarta, playing rugby with the Royal Navy in Lima – the place they love best is Milngavie with its easy access to city, countryside and cycling.
Campbells Have Lived Here For 50 Years
The family built ‘Pleasant Hill’ within the garden grounds of the 200-year-old main house where they have lived for >50 years. For the past two decades, the villa has hosted family & friends’ gatherings (including homecomings), weddings and milestone celebrations as well as memorials and reunions (including respectful hen and stag groups).
It’s a Privilege to Help You Relax
Often unpacking & stacking a grocery order so that everything is already chilling in the kitchen, Chris & Frances take pride in seeing guests arrive, relax and unwind in the spacious living areas, and consider it their privilege to lend a hand when large numbers are being entertained. On request, they will prepare and serve formal or informal meals. [The family is lucky to have trained cooks who have catered for large ski chalets, wedding reception parties and national sports teams.] Very reasonable prices are available for family meals – breakfasts, picnic lunches, afternoon teas and evening meals – whilst guests enjoy the freedom to host their own party without all the worry or hassle.
